It was ‘the best day of my life,’ a fitting way to describe the ScotiaMcleod – Vibrant Communities St. John’s fundraiser at the Delta on April 3, 2012, as children and adults alike made their way through the crowds for a photo opportunity with the Stanley Cup.
More than 800 people gathered for The Stanley Cup Experience, including representatives of ScotiaMcLeod and their families, 20 CSC Vibrant Communities families, with 10 kids and their siblings from the Youth Education Support (YES) Program in Rabbittown, members of the Vibrant Communities Leadership Team, and the Community Sector Council’s Staff and Board of Directors. All proceeds went to the Community Sector Council NL – Vibrant Communities St. John’s initiative.
A once in a lifetime experience
ScotiaMcleod brought the Stanley Cup to St. John’s for this exclusive family event that had entertainment, refreshments, door prizes, giveaways and of course, a free professional photo with Lord Stanley’s Cup.
Prizes included an autographed Jarome Iginla Calgary Flames jersey, an autographed photo of Jason Spezza of the Ottawa Senators, a Scotiabank Hockey Club jersey, two autographed St. John’s IceCaps Limited Edition hockey sticks, and two $100 Gift Certificates from Portobello’s restaurant on Duckworth Street.
Tickets were also being sold for some very exciting prize packages including: a Montreal Canadians Getaway; season tickets to the Ice Caps at Mile One; a night in the Scotiabank suite with 14 tickets and a $300 food voucher; an autographed Purcell Jersey with a limited edition IceCaps stick; and an autographed Detroit Red wings Cleary Jersey with a limited edition St. John’s IceCaps stick.
Buddy the Puffin, the IceCaps’ mascot, made a special appearance, and face painters brightened hundreds of already excited faces. Phil Pritchard, Keeper of the Stanley Cup - Hockey Hall of Fame, was also on hand to sign autographs and chat with hockey fans.
“It was a once in a lifetime experience for all involved,” says Ruth MacDonald, Project Associate for CSC Vibrant Communities St. John’s. “It was an amazing opportunity to bring our families together, and we want to shout out a great big ‘Thank You’ to ScotiaMcleod for making this happen.”
Nearly $5000 was raised for Vibrant Communities St. John’s, and ScotiaMcLeod will match the funds raised during the event.
