The Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador and the Volunteer Week 2012 Committee are encouraging communities and organizations across the Province to celebrate volunteers during Volunteer Week - April 15-21, 2012.
The Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador is leading a local effort to reduce poverty in low income neighbourhoods of St. John’s. Part of a nation-wide program sponsored by Tamarack Institute and funded by the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation and Human Resources and Social Development Canada, Vibrant Communities brings together people living in poverty, government, the voluntary sector and the private sector to develop solution collaboratively.
The Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador (CSC) has received approval from the TD Financial Literacy Grants Fund and Social and Enterprise Development Innovations (SEDI) for a project to broaden the array and delivery methods of personal financial management information and services for economically disadvantaged people in NL.
The Clusters project is exploring the potential and developing a model for building local networks of nonprofits to enable collaboration and to provide support to organizations experiencing similar issues. CSC is in its second year in the Cabot Loop area of the Bonavista Peninsula and began work on the Burin Peninsula in 2009.
The Community Sector Working Committee is a group of leaders from across the province who come together in person, by phone, and online to share ideas and approaches. It was formed by the Community Sector Council NL in 2011 to help CSC meet its mandate to provide capacity-building and support to the community sector and to help shape and influence public policy.
In 2010, Community Sector Council NL launched a new project, Take it without a grain of salt, with a multi-agency Working Group including community organizations, academics, health professionals and government employees. The purpose is to initiate community action around the public health issue of high sodium consumption.
CSC is a member of the Canadian Nonprofit Innovators Network. We are looking for the innovative practices of nonprofit organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador. Help us share your success!

The Atlantic Charities Learning Exchange was designed to help charities in Atlantic Canada better comply with their obligations under the Income Tax Act. The Community Sector Council is the lead organization for this Atlantic-wide initiative.
CSC is a member of the Canadian Federation of Voluntary Sector Networks which is working to build connections, cohesion, and capacity in the voluntary, nonprofit sector.
