SWASP Deadline Has Passed
The deadline for SWASP 2011 has passed. Approval notifications should be sent to successful organizations by the end of May. If you have not had an approval notification by early June, your application was not successful. We receive many more worthy applications than can be funded. Success in previous years does not have any impact on this year’s application.
To fill any openings due to declines or cancellations, a few additional approvals will be made throughout June and into early July.
Thank you for your interest in SWASP.
Backgrounder
The Community Service Component of the Student Work and Service Program (SWASP) is a unique program that serves post-secondary students and community organizations, enabling students to work in their home community during the summer, develop transferable skills, explore career interests and help nonprofits carry out their programs. In return, they receive a $1,400 tuition voucher upon completion of a 280-hour placement (8 weeks), plus a weekly stipend of $175. This program has been operating since 1994, thanks to a three-way partnership of Service Canada, the provincial Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and the Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador.
